Le Shanghai Daily, je l'aime beaucoup mais parfois il dépasse les bornes des limites. Comme en témoigne une récent papier (qui fera la Une) dans lequel les journalistes (occidentaux) s'émeuvent de la visite du chef du parti communiste shanghaien à leur rédaction anglophone. D'après cet article, les membres du parti organisent régulièrement des réunions avec les responsables des différents médias (tous soumis au gouvernement). Et ils ne se gênent pas pour inciter les rédacteurs en chef à se focaliser sur les réussites du gouvernement chinois. J'ai mis en gras les passages les plus intéressants. Je connais personnellement une journaliste du Daily Shanghai, Jenny Hammond. Je suis curieux de savoir si elle était aussi euphorique que ses confrères, à recevoir la visite du chef du parti communiste...

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Xi Jinping has urged local journalists to adopt a global vision, care more about people's interests, work harder and arm themselves with up-to-date information.

Xi said."All media organizations should regard the satisfactory social results as the focus and top priority of their work," Xi said.

The Party secretary also said that because of the rapidly changing international and domestic situation and constant emergence of new technologies, journalists must work harder and study harder to keep pace with the times.

(...) He talked with the newspaper staff and met almost all the newspaper's expatriate journalists.

When he learned that Sarah Macklin is from Australia, he asked how she is adjusting to the city and her new job."Life is good here," Macklin said. "Shanghai is a great city. I like my job here and I like Shanghai Daily."

After he was told that Victoria Graham first came to China as the founding chief of The Associated Press Beijing Bureau in 1979, Xi said to her, "Then you have been in China for quite some time and you must have witnessed many changes in China and Shanghai."

Graham answered: "Major changes - and all for the better."

Many members of the newspaper's staff felt encouraged by the new Party secretary's visit."He is the first person of such importance I've met in Shanghai," Macklin said. "He was so polite, stopping to say hello with every expat here. He really left a very good impression to all of us."
